Imphal, April 20: Manipur CM N Biren Singh today inaugurated the first state level ginger festival at Parbung in Pherzawl district.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by ministers, MLAs, officials of the state government and hundreds of villagers from the district.
The two-day festival aims to stabilise and promote the ginger market of the state in greater interest of cultivators and farmers whose livelihood depend on ginger farming.
It may be mentioned that more than 1200 metric tons of ginger are said to be produced at the district, which is priced at Rs 9 per kg at Lamka town. The organising committee of the festival has informed that the price has been planned to be fixed at Rs 15 per kg.
Many companies and agencies were also invited to the festival to take stock of plantation in the district.
The CM also inaugurated a 132/33 KV sub-station at Thanlon today during his visit to Pherzawl district.
