Guwahati, April 18: Indian Vice President M Venkaiak Naidu today launched the Atal Amrit Abhiyan in Guwahati in presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Governor Jagdish Mukhi, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma among other dignitaries.
The Atal Amrit Abhiyan aims to cover 92% of the population of Assam.
Up to two lakh rupees will be provided annually to each beneficiary under the Atal Amrit Abhiyan, informed CM Sonowal at the event.
Addressing the gathering, Naidu said that India is embarking on an ambitious journey of achieving Universal Health Coverage by ensuring equitable access for all Indian citizens, regardless of income level, social status, gender, caste or religion.
“There has to be concerted efforts from all stakeholders in healthcare to raise awareness among the people on the dangers of leading sedentary lifestyles, eating junk food, harmful use of alcohol and tobacco” Naidu added.
The Vice President also cautioned the state government to to monitor proper implementation of the Atal Amrit Abhiyan in the state.
“From day one, our government is trying to bring transparent results in all sectors, be it in health, rural development, industrial growth or giving employment in a very open and transparent environment. All these have become possible because of constant support from the people of Assam” CM Sonowal said at the launch ceremony.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his happiness at the launch of the scheme and termed it as a game-changer in health sector.
