Veteran Assamese film director Munin Barua no more

Guwahati, April 07: Veteran Assamese film director Munin Barua passed away at 1:55 am last night at his residence in Guwahati. He was aged 72 at the time of his death.

It may be mentioned that Barua was undergoing treatment since many days.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered state honour for Barua’s funeral and requested the Chief Secretary to make all arrangements accordingly.

Munin Barua was one of the most prominent Assamese film directors of all times and contributed some of the most popular Assamese films that include Hiya Diya Niya, Nayak, Raamdhenu among others.

His film “Hiya Diya Niya” created history in 2000; it was a blockbuster and contributed to the revival of the Assamese Film Industry. His film “Dinabandhoo” got the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Assamese.

Munin Barua’s demise is a great loss to the film industry of Assam as well as the Assamese society. Team UniTreed offers their condolences. His contributions shall be remembered forever.
