Guwahati, April 04: Government of Assam on Wednesday announced a special drive to recruit women Police officers across the state.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal informed the Assam Assembly that 64 Women Cells have been constituted in all districts and sub divisions across the state and 364 Sub Inspectors are being given awareness training for better handling of cases of crime against women at the Police Training College in Dergaon.

Talking about women in the police force of the state, the CM said that the number is very less as compared to men. “We have decided to have 30 per cent women in the police force of Assam. For this, we shall have a special recruitment drive to appoint women Sub Inspectors” the CM added.
It may be mentioned that the rate of crime against women has been on the rise in the state, with numerous shocking incidents coming to light in the recent few days.
