Guwahati, April 01: Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expressed profound grief at the sudden demise of Manipur based senior journalist Khelen Thokchom, who was one of the active media persons of Northeast India. Thokchom (58) felt severe chest pain last night at his residence in Imphal and was immediately rushed to the hospital where he breathed his last on April 01 in the morning.
On the other hand, the JFA has invited all media persons of Assam to attend a memorial meeting to pay tributes to senior journalist Mohan Kakati, who expired on March 16 after suffering from illness for sometimes.
The meeting is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Tuesday (April 03) at the Guwahati Press Club. Hailing from Roha in Nagaon district of central Assam, Kakati (63) used to work for Dainik Janambhumi, Dainik Asom, Ajir Batori, Asomiya Pratidin, Aji, Asomiya Khabar, Niyomiya Barta among other newspapers. He has left behind a host of relatives and well-wishers.
“Understanding the life of a scribe is precious to the society and nation, we urge all media persons to maintain a sound health pursuing preventive healthcare initiatives along with their families. Moreover, we appeal to the government to support the bereaved families at this time of crisis” said a statement issued by JFA President Rupam Barua and Secretary Nava Thakuria.
