Rajnath Singh visits Assam’s 220 year old Barechaharia Bhaona

Guwahati, March 02: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday visited Jamugurihat, Sonitpur ti inaugurate Assam’s 220 year old Barechaharia Bhaona. He was in Assam to inaugurate the 220 year old Barechaharia Bhaona, which is held every five to six years in Sonitpur district.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Union Minister said that he had never attended such a traditional event before which started 220 years ago. Rajnath Singh  also recalled the contributions of the three cultural icons of the Assamese society – Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Natasurya Phani Sarma. He also mentioned about Dr Bhupen Hazarika, saying that he was one of the great sons of not only Assam but also the entire nation.

During the ceremony, Singh also spoke on the improved law and order situation of the Northeastern states, adding that the era of violence has come to an end in Assam.
