Protesters of Assam Bandh called by AKRSU attack vehicles

Guwahati, July 09: All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU) had called for a 24-hour Assam Bandh on Monday, demanding ST status for their community and a separate state of Kamatapur.

The bandh has, however, taken a violent turn across parts of lower Assam as protesters have taken to pelting stones at vehicles. National highways have been blocked by bandh supporters in Bongaigaon and Goalpara.

Reports of lathi-charge have been received from Chirang.

The Police have also arrested many protesters from Barpeta Road after they pelted stones at commercial vehicles.
