Guwahati, April 02: In another proud moment for the state, Managing Director of The Assam Tribune Prafulla Govinda Baruah has been awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind.
It may be mentioned that The Assam Tribune is the highest circulated English daily from Assam.
Baruah has been awarded Padma Shri for Literature & Education (Journalism).
Baruah is also associated with various socio-cultural organisations and has been promoting amateur theatre in Assam since years.
Other recipients of the Padma Shri from Assam are Arup Kumar Dutta and Joyasree Goswami Mahanta.
Arup Kumar Dutta is a writer and journalist and has written 14 books for adults and 17 adventure novels for children.
Joyasree Goswami Mahanta is an Assamese language writer and educationalist. She was also an MP representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha.
The Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India and is announced every year on Republic Day.
Instituted in 1954, the award is conferred to Indian citizens for distinguished contribution in numerous fields including Arts, Education, Literature, Sports, Industry, Science, Medicine, Social Service and Public Affairs.
