Shillong, December 25: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma on December 20 inaugurated the Mawphlang Community Health Centre (CHC) in the presence of Minister of Urban Affairs RV Lyngdoh, MLA, Mawphlang, Kennedy Khyriem among others.
Speaking to the gathering, CM Sangma expressed happiness at having the CHC even though the foundation stone for it was laid 17 years ago and said that the important facility for the people remained elusive for a long time. “The long wait has culminated in creation of this most crucial facility for the people and it gives me joy to dedicate it to the people of Mawphlang” he said.
He also informed that even the most developed nations are still grappling with the challenge of providing health care facilities to its people and Meghalaya, notwithstanding the challenges in health sector, has focused on this important sector. “As in other states of the country, the CHCs and hospitals remain underutilised because of lack of doctors and specialists. Non utilisation of assets created with investment of public money is wrong” said the CM. He also informed that with the establishment of two medical colleges in the state, the gap between demand and supply of doctors, nurses and specialists will be addressed.
Sangma further said that the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) is an innovative and inclusive scheme and urged the public to take advantage of it. He also urged the nurses and medical fraternity of Mawphlang CHC to serve the people with love, compassion and dedication and do justice to the aspirations of the people.
