Manipuri film to have world premiere in South Korea

Guwahati, September 20: Manipuri fim ‘Bloody Phanek’, a film based on Phanek, the exclusive attire worn by Manipuri women, is all set to have its world Premiere at the ninth DMZ International Documentary Film Festival 2017. The will be held at Gyeonggi-do in South Korea starting today.

Directed and produced by independent film maker Sonia Nepram, the film explores phanek as a medium of protest. Bloody Phanek has been selected in the Global Vision Section (World Premiere category) of the festival which features 114 films from 42 countries.

It must be noted that Bloody Phanek is Sonia’s first feature length documentary film. Her debut film was ‘Gun and a God’ that was released online in 2013 and had also won the Jury’s Choice Award at the Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival (MWIFF).
