Littering may get you arrested in East Khasi Hills

Shillong, December 02: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District, Shillong,has strongly advised on systematic collection, segregation, disposal and overall management of waste to extend from each household and cover all public and private amenities across the city.

The problem concerning littering and indiscriminate dumping of waste is persisting at such an alarming rate that as a counter measure, offenders will be arrested u/s 102 of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010. Thereafter, a fine of Rs 5000/- onwards will be imposed upon conviction by a Court of Law. Detected cases can be reported to the nearest Police Station or Outpost.

The High Court of Meghalaya is also taking a keen interest in matters relating to the cleanliness of Shillong. As such, various Government and Non-Government agencies including the general public are mandated to be involved with the noble objective of restoring the city to its former glory.
