Guwahati, April 02: In a bid to empower women of the state, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched the Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Asoni scheme for generating sustainable livelihood avenues for the womenfolk of the region.
The CM launched the flagship scheme in the presence of members of more than 25,000 women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Guwahati.
Sonowal informed that one lakh SHGs shall be formed covering 10 lakh households in the state under the scheme, further strengthening the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).
Under the scheme, the government shall Rs 25,000 to each newly formed women SHG and additional revolving fund of Rs 10,000 to registered groups, who had already received Rs 15,000.
Revolving fund of Rs 25,000 were distributed to 2,566 SHGs on the launch of the scheme.
“Women in our civilisation have nourished our society with values and positive energy for ages, and strengthened our economy'” said the CM.
