Journalists’ Forum Assam expresses grief at scribes’ demise

Guwahati, February 11: Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expressed shock and grief at the untimely demise of a young photojournalist and urged the Government to sanction financial assistances for the bereaved family. The scribe’s forum also asked media persons to take care of their health against the silent killers (heart and brain stroke).

It may be noted that city based photojournalist Pranab Kalita, aged 35, who used to work for UB Photos, died of heart attack on February 05, 2018. He was reportedly suffering from hypertension for some months. Recently married, Pranab left behind his wife, a minor baby with other relatives and well-wishers.

JFA also expressed sorrow over the demise of senior journalist Dharani Kalita, who used to work for The Assam Tribune. Retired in 2005, Kalita died at the age of 74 after a brief illness at his Jotia residence in the city on February 09. A former office bearer of Guwahati Press Club, Kalita left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Mentionable is that Kalita was a recipient of journalist pension from Assam Government and was recently handed over the relevant official letter by the authority. The JFA expressed hope that his wife would be authorized to receive the pension benefits hereafter without any delay.
