Ivory worth Rs 35 lakh recovered in Guwahati

Guwahati, May 28: In an operation carried out by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), around 6 kg ivory worth Rs 35 lakh were recovered at Guwahati Railway Station.

24 pieces of ivory tusks have been seized by the DRI, which were being smuggled to Nepal. “It is suspected that five adult and sub-adult elephants might have been killed in Assam to extract these tusks” said Director General of DRI in a tweet.

Two individuals, identified as Badrul Hussain and Suraj Kumar, have been arrested for involvement in ivory smuggling.
