Guwahati, May 14: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on May 14 met top officials of the Vietnam Government and discussed several bilateral issues including agriculture, trade and commerce.
The CM was accompanied by Assam’s Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and 13 MLAs in the visit.
The delegation met agri-experts at Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Hanoi. Cultivations of rice, soya bean and groundnuts at the campus were shown to the delegation by the academy officials.
Sonowal met Hoang Binh Quan, Chairman of Vietnam’s External Relations Commission in Hanoi and discussed how to strengthen relations between the nations, with focus on Act East policy. He also urged for commencement of direct flights from Hanoi to Guwahati.
The CM then had meeting with Cao Duc Phat, Member of Party Central Committee cum Vice Chairman of Central Economic Commission in Hanoi and discussed on collaborations on technology and exchange of knowledge between Vietnam and Assam for the benefit of farmers.
Sonowal also urged Cao Duc Phat to set up a Vietnamese consulate in Guwahati.
