Jorhat, February 23: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated the third National Youth Convention on “Transforming Agriculture for Agripreneurship and Employment Opportunities: The Youth Perspective” at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and also presented the AIASA (All India Agricultural Students Association) National Awards during the event.
“Use of modern technology and equipment, and skill development can transform the agriculture sector and create job opportunities for the youth in the state” said the Chief Minister. He also said that the CMSGUY (Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana) is the government’s initiative to realise the Prime Minister’s vision of doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
“Agriculture is the backbone of our economy. I urge the youth of the state to take advantage of the various schemes of the government, and programmes on capacity building and skill development. One should explore the huge potential in agriculture and agri-business sectors” Sonowal added.
The CM also informed that the state government has taken various steps to develop Assam as an organic hub. “We are striving for economic growth, but not at the cost of our ecology. The government has taken up policies to plant 10 crore plants across the state every year, to protect the rich biodiversity of the region” the CM said.
The CM also congratulated delegates from across the nation and urged everyone to work toward forming a strong and united society.
