CM Sonowal distributes financial grant to small tea growers in Jorhat

Jorhat, March 20: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today ceremonially distributed financial grant to 1,188 small tea growers in Jorhat. An amount of Rs 5,000 per bigha of land was given to each small tea grower in a meeting held at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and Industries Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary were also present at the event among others.

Sonowal said that the Assam Government is working towards the revival of the industry. “We have given Rs 17 crore to the Tocklai Tea Research Institute for training of tea growers. We believe that 1.3 lakh small tea growers will lead this transformative journey of the historic tea industry” he added.

The CM also announced that the small tea growers who still did not possess land documents shall be given pattas at a cost of as low as Rs 1,000 per bigha.

Chandra Mohan Patowary informed that a Tea Park in Guwahati is in the pipeline, which would be beneficial for growers to display their products.
