Guwahati, October 19: In another proud moment for the state, Assamese film “Village Rockstars”, directed by Rima Das, has won three awards at the recently held 19th MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Images) Film Festival, 2017.
The movie won the following awards:
- The Golden Gateway Award
- Young Critics Choice Award
- Gender Equality Award
Director Rima Das expressed her gratitude to the MAMI team, the Jury and especially the children. “Most of the people thought I was mad as I worked on this film for four years but the children and my family believed in me” she stated in a Facebook post.
“This year’s Diwali has turned to be an extremely special one for us. I am over the moon. I couldn’t have asked for a better Diwali gift. I thank the Universe and God for helping me overcome every hardship while making Village Rockstars. I thank the Village Rockstars team again, HAF, NFDC, PJLF, Tallinn Industry, Whitelight, Asian Shadows, Loudspeaker media, Amrit Pritam and his team, all well wishers and my friends. Thank you so much. Keep blessing” she added.
Village Rockstars is about a 10-year-old girl living in a remote village in northeast India and her fight against stereotypes and poverty to pursue her dream of owning a guitar and forming a rock band.
