Guwahati, September 15: A new franchise-based T20 tournament named Indian Junior Player League T20 (IJPL T20) will be held in Dubai from September 19 to 29. It is India’s biggest cricket tournament for under 18 players, organized by Grace India Sports and Gautam Gambhir Cricket Foundation. IJPL T20 is a 16-franchise based league and will involve 240 players selected from a nation-wide talent hunt, from over 55,000 players. Former India player Gautam Gambhir is the brand ambassador for the tournament. South African ace Jonty Rhodes and West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard are also coming on board as mentors.
Not known to many, but a team from Assam has also been selected to participate in this first day-night cricket tournament for juniors. The team representing Assam has been named as ‘ASSAM RANGERS’. The junior talents of this team were picked from a selection camp which was held at Judges High Field Ground, Guwahati from December 26 to 28, 2016, registration fees for which was Rs 5,500. Altogether, 14 junior players have been picked in this squad, who are:

It must be mentioned that the Indian Junior Players League had run into a major hurdle a week before its scheduled start in Dubai. The BCCI had issued a diktat to all its affiliated units that none of their registered player should be allowed to participate in the league. The IJPL organizers are however firm to go ahead with their “Talent Hunt and Talent Support” initiative and the matches will be played as per schedule.
Players of Assam Rangers see this exposure tournament as a golden opportunity to display their abilities on a momentous platform and get trained under the best coaches and physios of international cricket. Assam Rangers have already started their journey to Dubai and will be staying at Ghaya Grand Hotel near Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The cost of air fare and accommodation is being borne by the IJPL Talent Hunt management. The winning team of this tournament will receive a prize money of Rs 21 lakh while the runners-up will be awarded Rs 11 lakh.
The ‘Man of the Series’ will get an opportunity to play with Minor counties in England.
