Sivasagar, April 02: In a never before initiative in the region, around six lakh sixteen thousand saplings were planted at Charaideo district in Upper Assam.
Forest Man of India Jadav Payeng was also present at the event and planted saplings. He said that the saplings which are being planted need to be maintained too, only planting shall not help in our cause.
Titled ‘Shyamoli Charaideo‘, the plantation drive saw the participation of thousands of people across the district.
The plantation drive was carried out under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Charaideo district Vibekananda Phukan, who also planned the event.
Plantation was carried out at several locations including forest reserves, government office and school premises among others.

Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Sonari MLA Tapan Kumar Gogoi also participated in the drive among others.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, in a tweet, congratulated the district administration, forest officials, students and people of the region for coming together to fulfill the historic feat.
