12-hour bandh paralyses normal life in Jorhat

Jorhat, September 20: Normal life was paralysed in Jorhat today, after the 12-hour bandh that was called for by several organisations was observed from 5 am. Educational institutions, commercial and business establishments, financial institutions remained closed in the district. Vehicles remained off roads during the bandh time.

The bandh was called for as a protest against the state government’s attempt to shield an IAS officer allegedly involved in misappropriation of District Untied fund of Jorhat. They have demanded legal action against senior IAS officer Solanki Vishal Vasant.

The organisations that called for the Bandh include the district units of All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, Assam Tea Tribes’ Students’ Association, All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union, All Assam Scheduled Caste Students’ Union, Upper Assam Muslim Kalyan Parishad among others.

No incident of violence have been reported so far.
