Guwahati, December 12: Creating a buzz in the music scenario of Assam recently is a band named SMACK. “SMACK is not only a band. It’s a society that is open for everyone. It is the dream of our beloved brothers Priyanshu Nath and Siddhant Saha. They had a dream of a movement that would change the trend of the Assamese Music Industry. But the unknown one had other ideas as we lost both of them in an accident. This left us in shock. We then decided to carry forward their dream. Thus SMACK was born. It was coined by Phulen Pratim Hazarika” says SMACK team, that was formed in 2015, in a rendezvous with Team UniTreed. The full form of SMACK is Soulful Music At Cotton Kollege.
SMACK has seven band members –
- Mukunda Saikia aka Muku (Lyricist, Composer and Guitarist)
- Rupam Baruah (Vocalist and Guitar)
- Happy Lark Hato (Keys )
- Chinmoy Sarma (Lead Guitarist)
- Hridoy Khound (Drums)
- Kamal Baruah (Percussion)
- Bhargav Choudhury (Bass)
The manager duo includes Shekhar Suman Borah and Gaurab Kumar Sarma whereas Akash looks after sound arrangement.
SMACK had collaborated with leading artists of Assam like Zubeen Garg, Malaya Goswami, Pabitra Margherita, Ananya Dutta in releasing an album titled “Geet Gua Pokhiti Uri Juar Pisot” in memory of their lost brothers. It won the Best Album Award at the GupShup Music Awards 2017. They were also the first runners up at the national level competition Future Sound of India held at Shilpagram, Guwahati recently.
“We are now working on our first independent album SMACK 1.0. The songs in this album are unique in every sense. The genres vary in each and every song. The songs will touch different social issues and matters that pass by our eye. In simple words, it will be our first step in our revolution. As we have said, SMACK is a dream and we have taken baby steps in achieving our dream. In realising this dream we have faced problems that are mainly financial. As students, we try our best” says the team.
“Assamese Music in a global perspective, that’s what we are planning for. Music has no language, a song in Assamese language also can achieve a global level” says team member Muku.
They specially thank the whole Cotton family for the help that they have provided and for all the motivation.
