Guwahati, March 13: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Guwahati edition of 8th Theatre Olympics om March 11.
Guwahati shall host 15 plays from March 11-25, 2018 which will comprise regional and international plays as well as folk productions. All the plays will be staged at Madhavdev International Auditorium at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.
The inaugural programme was held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, where Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley, Padma Bhushan Jahnu Barua and Padmashree Nrityacharya Jatin Goswami were the guests of honour.
The 15-day-long celebration of theatrical performances in the city will witness international productions such as Jiudo Aakash (Nepal), Antigone (Nepal) and Jail House (Brazil).
The CM expressed his happiness and said that the Guwahati edition shall be a learning platform for students and enthusiasts of the region.
The 8th Theatre Olympics is organised by the National School of Drama under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Classes are also being organsied on March 14, 15, 16 and 17 as part of the event where National Award winning actor Seema Biswas, Padma Bhushan Jahnu Baruah, Padmashri Jatin Goswami and internationally acclaimed Assamese actor Adil Hussain shall share their insights.
